Taking the 1970s as inspiration, Muted Seventies by the Authentic Beauty Concept team is clever. While the chosen era is famous for glamour and sequins at one end of the spectrum, and tie-dye, fringing and bell-bottoms at the other, this collection takes the less is more approach. The Authentic Beauty Concept brand ethos is for soft, authentic and beautifully wearable hair. For Muted Seventies, our eyes are on the hair while our consciousness picks up on the innuendos of texture, detail and strong silhouettes. It’s done so well.

Muted Seventies: reflecting diversity

The collection is inspired by the eclectic fashion, music and cultural revolution that is associated with the 1970s. Creatively led by brand ambassador Joseph Ferraro, a team of stylists ensured that they stayed on track to represent the spirit of undone vibes, while presenting individually striking looks. Working with a range of textures and adding volume and shape, we have soft waves, soft mullet and full-bodied curls for what they call a “modern spin on a seriously stylish era.”

Tribu-te says:

It’s not easy pulling off a concept collection. There’s a real challenge in keep a set of photographs focussed on the hair and yet telling a story. Underplaying is key, we feel. Suggestions of an era, or an influence or movement is all you need. Do the mood board then subtract 50% of your references… styling doesn’t need the full drama of accessories, clothing, lighting, make-up and attitude to be compelling.
