Federico Patelli

We are so exited that The Big One 2020 is on and we can’t wait to receive your photos with your lovely work again this time of the year. Lately, we have been catching up with the winners from last year’s Big One in order to bring you their news, their advice and words of motivation and inspiration. On that note, here’s what Federico Patelli, awarded hairdresser and educator from Toni & Guy and big winner of both The Up and Coming One and The Big One trophies, said to us:

1. What did it mean to win 2 trophies, including The Up & Coming One and The Big One in the first year of launch?

For me it’s an honour to be the winner of The Up & Coming and The Big One; I was very excited to be one of the finalists with so many talented hairdressers and being able to win both trophies was unbelievable! I still feel the buzz of that night, and what made it so special was also the fact that I had my family and my colleagues with me there to support and celebrate together.

2. Do you often enter competitions?

Competitions are something that allows me to improve, learn and communicate to others my taste, my skills and also help me express my creativity. I have been entering competitions for the last 4 years, but never made it to any finals or big stage; though hard work and consistency always pay off as some point.

3. Have you enjoyed showing it off to family and clients?

I’m coming from a family full of hairdressers who understand the importance of winning a competition, so it was great to show it off to them. My clients know that I love entering competitions and be more creative so they were also happy to hear that I had won 2 awards, it was the talk of the salon!

4. Where is it displayed?!

Very proud to have my trophy at home with me, it’s my morning motivation.

5. How do you describe your hairdressing signature style of work?

With the mixture of my Italian experience and my time in London that has helped me to create my style of work, I really like the combination of a very clean and discipline cutting technique with a soft and detailed finish.

6. How have you found this first half of 2020?

The first half of the year it was very different, we had the opportunity to stop and rethink of what we were doing and how we were doing things and I am sure that we all learn from it. I am really excited to go back to the salon to the Academy and get inspired every day from our amazing industry.

2 trophies and double win for Federico

7. What do you hope for the rest of the year?

For the rest of the year I am really excited to restart from were we stopped with more motivation, inspiration and passion than before. Education is something that I am really passionate, and it will be amazing to reopen our Academy, learn and improve ourselves and share it with the rest of the hairdressing word.

8. What advice can you give to someone thinking of entering The Big One 2020?

My advise will be ”do it do it do it!”; enter competitions is an amazing opportunity to push yourself creativetly and also a good way to set your goals. It will make you think out of the box and the more competitions you enter, the more you learn, which is the best part of it.
