Do you do Saturdays?

In Uncategorized by Nicky

What would you say if we told you there was a campaign to persuade salon owners like you that, dare we say it,  not opening on a Saturday could be financially doable? We know, we know – crazy, right? But High Performance Stylist’s new movement ‘We Don’t Do Saturdays’ may just convince you otherwise. If you can make it work, your stylists would never look back (workplace incentive anyone?) and, believe it or not, your clients might not hate it either.

We don’t do Saturdays

First of all, it’s important to ask – why! Why not do Saturdays? Founders of High Performance Stylist, David and Nicole Barnett (pictured above) told us: “Thanks to the massive social and economic change made by Covid-19, creating a balance between ‘work’ and ‘personal life’ has never been so important. Everyone deserves to have a successful career, without having to jeopardise the time they spend at home or with family.”

So let’s get this straight. Bolt the salon doors on a Friday night, enjoy a work-free weekend with the family and return on Monday feeling refreshed, like most other professionals? Oh, we like it.

How does this work?

When it comes to making the big decision, what are David and Nicole’s top tips? “First, look at your business profit by days of the week,” they told us. “Saturday for most is already a reduced hour day and often not the biggest profit day. In fact is could be the 3rd or 4th most profitable day.

“Secondly, think about whether you could make up the lost Saturday hours and still make it work for the clients; extending hours during the week and offering evening appointments allows the salon to operate the same. Also, many salons are closed on Mondays, so why not be the ones open?” And finally, what about the numbers? “Really understand how and from what makes up your business revenue, and more importantly, profit. Once the numbers are crunched and projections mapped out, it is not a stretch to maintain Saturday revenue during other days of the week.”

Whilst we know the move to closing on a Saturday won’t be for everyone, those who can make it work may actually notice a positive difference in staff morale… great for staff retention! And possibly, they”ll see no difference at all to their profit. Now there’s a thought.

So, the question now is – are you tempted?
