Not one but two awards to report for the Collinge clan this week! This hairdressing family has formed part of UK hairdressing’s rich heritage for more than 80 years, and remains one to watch, with interest. Grandfather Peter Collinge was a competition hairdresser in the 1970s/80s and set the pace for his son Andrew, and now his grandson Charlie. Today, Andrew and Charlie head up the latest incarnation of the family brand Collinge & Co, a five premises group in Liverpool. At Battersea Arts Centre this week, Collinge & Co was awarded The Design One trophy, and last month Andrew Collinge was awarded a solid silver medallion by the Denman brand. Read on for details!
The Design One
The Big One Trophy hosted by Tribu-te Magazine includes seven trophies, and for 2023, Collinge & Co scooped The Design One. The refit of their flagship salon on Liverpool’s Castle Street caught the judges eye for being the perfect blend of form and function. See all the photographs HERE:

An enduring relationship
Just a few weeks earlier, Denman Chairman Dr John Rainey MBE had presented Andrew Collinge with another prestige award recognising great service to the UK hairdressing industry. The Dr John Rainey MBE Award is a solid silver medallion presented to individuals that have made a long-standing contribution to the Denman brand. The design was executed by the chief engraver of the Royal Mint and carries the Latin motto ‘quaerite verum’ which means ‘seek the truth’.
Dr John Rainey says: “Andrew and I have known each other for the best part of 50 years. Andrew’s father Peter was the very first hairdresser to demonstrate on our tiny Denman stand at the inaugural Salon International exhibition at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. Denman worked closely with Andrew through the decades and he and I became very close friends, often meeting socially.

One of my fondest memories is from a Japanese hairdressing tour in the 1980’s when I found myself in a Tokyo hotel room at 2am attempting to help prepare models for the following day’s show! Andrew’s talents and loyalty to our brand have been so appreciated and this Award is a small recognition of that.”
