Our last hurrah before the Christmas break was attending the end of term Runwild: A White Show at Central Saint Martins’ in London. The concept was a ‘reset’ spectacle where students unleashed their untamed potential and humorously critiqued Central Saint Martins’ voyeuristic gaze of the fashion world. This was a moment for the first year BA Fashion students to highlight sustainability with high-fashion design. We loved it. Browse the gallery… (photography by Karen Hatch)

Supported by L’Oreal Professionnel
Continuing its long commitment to supporting the students and fashion courses at Central Saint Martins, the backstage hair team was led by Hair Director Jason Hall and Co-lead Frazer Wallace. With 16 members of the L’Oréal Professionnel ID Artists to help, they prepared a staggering number of 190 models. The brief was a ‘celebration of wild movement in hair’. The team was invited to create bespoke looks – with the input of the BA student creating the clothes – and to use L’Oréal Professionnel’s tecni.art range, with products such as Pli, Fix Max, Fix Design, Volume Dust, and Infinium used to achieve the personalised hairstyles.
Jason Hall explains: “We were inspired thinking of our models going out in the wind and rain; hair slightly wet at the front and getting bigger and bigger at the back. So short hair has got very minimal volume at the back and then, dependent on hair length, we’re putting more volume into it the longer it is. It’s a very simple look and our hero products are Pli and Volume Dust. We’ve gone through piles of the stuff! Some of the designers have been very specific about their looks, and I’m open to that- so what started as about three variations of the look in reality has meant about ten variations. But it’s key that the designers are happy. We’ve got 190 models, and 190 designers which is not the norm compared to a typical fashion show- and every language being spoken- but everyone is wonderful.”
The White Show
Each year, the new BA Fashion students are tasked at the end of their first term, with creating looks for ‘a white show’. The concept or theme changes from year to year, and for December 2024 it was sustainability and rebellion. They were asked to ‘run wild’!
The diatribe of rebellion is an ode to the daring spirit and raw creativity that is Central Saint Martins’ Fashion. BA Fashion designs are made using Ultrasuede, which is 100% plant-based, and recycled materials from Elis proceed by LMB Textiles. Likened to exotic animals in the weeks leading up to the show, students’ creative habitats are glimpsed through animal cameras. Buzzing sewing machines, corridors piled with fabrics; busts ornamented with drapes. After tireless months of meticulous sewing, cutting, and making, these garments are freed into the wild.
