Victorian masculinity and luxe fabrics commanded the catwalk as cult Australian fashion label. Ellery made their debut on the Paris Haute Couture fashion week schedule. Hair, led by Euguene Soulieman was elegantly tough. Adding an attitude boost to compliment the luxurious, soft fabrics that dominate the couture collection.
Eugene explains “at the front there’s this very masculine, Victorian feeling to the hair and then it just becomes more natural. At first glance, hair is placed on top of the head and then it becomes really loose. There’s a really beautiful play on the blending of textures, it’s really lovely. This look is about minimalism, it’s about how you can say so much by taking things away. Just keeping that purity. It’s about the emotion that you put into the hairstyle. The attitude you have when you’re styling it. It’s very sharp, defined, but in a very quiet way and that’s what I love about it. It’s really very subtle but very strong to look at – it’s pure and it’s beautiful.”
Victorian masculinity:The Looks
And how did he achieve the look? Air. Using the ghd Air Hairdryer adds a natural texture. Spraying hair down creates a clean, sharp and shiny texture that resembles the satin in the clothing. Meaning that the hair emulates that weightlessness and softness of fabric as it falls. Finish off with Sculpting product at the roots with a paint brush to reinforce the satin finish. Then it diffused with the ghd Air Hairdryer to quash flyaways. The majority of hair is then brushed across the head and tucked behind the ears so that the textures blend. The remaining strands are pulled back so that they look taut, referencing Victorian masculinity.
We adore this subtle reference to Victoriana and the completed look – see photographs below.
