Siobhan Jones talks winning The Design One award at The Big One

In Uncategorized by Nicky

Salon owner Siobhan Jones opened her first London salon in Fulham on the New Kings Road, specialising in colour and balayage specifically. She describes it as a ‘feel-good’ location and from the outset, the vibe and styling of the salon itself has been super-important to its success. Rose & Wild has been winning hearts and awards with rave reviews and many admiring glances to the décor. It’s very personal and yet functional, too. In October 2019, Rose & Wild scooped the title of The Design One in our contest, The Big One. And since The Big One is back now, we thought it would be a great opportunity to catch up with Siobhan and find out how she made the space her own.

  1. How do you sum up the look and vibe of your lovely salon?

The boutique has been specifically designed to help encourage the feel-good factor. Throughout the space we have lots of soft furnishings, cushions, plants and have a strong pastel colour theme. Specifically, the colour rose; featured frequently in our logo, Instagram, illustrations and furnishings. Pink is known to evoke a youthful nostalgic vibe, which helps to encourage happy connotations for our team and clients. The space is feminine, instagrammable and comfortable.

   2.  Where did you begin with the design process?

The concept of the boutique was to create a space that is more than just a hair salon but a feel-good location. A go to happy place for not only the clients but for the stylists and colourists that work there also. We wanted everyone to feel so comfortable that it almost felt like home, so we spent a lot of time researching what made people feel comfortable and feel good. We combined this with the idea of creating a space dedicated to our female clients. Most salons seemed to be either unisex or Barbers catering for gents. This space celebrates what women want all whilst being totally grammable.

  3.  What does it mean to have won The Big One – The One For Design?

Winning The Big One was an incredible feeling. Not only to recognised by leaders within the industry so early on in opening but the fact it created such brand awareness for us within the UK and outside. Our clients absolutely love seeing our award up in the salon too.

  4.  What do you find attractive in the looks of salons you’ve visited? What sort of features catch your eye?

I’m a real sucker for a velvet sofa and a neon sign if I’m honest, but I ABSOLUTELY love colour. That is what our business is all about and I feel that should be supported by complimentary aesthetics.

  5.  When you choose artwork and ornaments, what should salons owners think about?

Originality is key. The artwork and ornaments are the details that set you apart from anyone else. Make sure they fit with your salon message and as and where possible try to get the original. That way, if it gets photographed by a client, then your space cannot get mistaken for somewhere else.
