So we’re new at understanding how AI fits into hairdressing… where’s the skill, what should be applauded and what avoided? Wherever you are on this, it’s important to appreciate that Artificial Intelligence is increasingly used creatively. The Australian Hairdressing Industry Awards 2024 this Summer awarded a title for AI Collection of the Year. We share it here:

Meet Johnny Georgiou, creator of un[Real]

Here’s what Johnny has to say:

“As a hairdresser of 34 years, a specialist hair photographer/retoucher for over a decade, and an avid AI enthusiast, I wanted to create a collection that blurred the line between the unreal and the real in a subtle nuanced way.

“Distopia, Utopia, and high fashion clash in a juxtaposition of chaos, beauty and the relentless pursuit for perfection. I know what I can do with a hair image using traditional Photoshop methods, and I also know the limitless freedom that AI generation can also offer.  For this collection I want the viewer to look at these images and question which were real (if any), and which were created, as well as wonder if any of the images were a combination of both.

“AI offers a world of possibility as well as the danger of being influenced and consumed by a lack of digital authenticity, and it’s this that worries me the most as a creative moving forward.”

Now it’s. your turn? What do you think?
