Vin+Omi x KMS kicked off London Fashion Week with their best yet show we feel. Stomping round London’s Congress Centre, the presentation models were powerful, playful, provocative as ever. We loved umpteen skilfully-crafted outfits with made-you-look hair which won us over for aesthetic and message combined. Vin+Omi, we hear you – our lifestyles are not great news for the Planet but you make us hopeful and ready to change. Browse Opinions – pix courtesy of Credit: Ben Broomfield @photobenphoto:
There’s so much to talk about but first, special mention to Simon Webster who lead his hair team to new heights, literally! Straight up (see what we did there?) and badass, Simon’s looks were clever and attractively created ensuring that hair is seriously part of the fabric of the Opinions fashion show.. and the message to change our ways.
Hair-spiration
With more than 70 models to send down the catwalk, the hair brief was to use fewer products, eschewing heated styling tools if possible. Simon says: “For 23 of the styles we used no heat tools at all, to show how to create stunning hair looks using only one key styling product and no styling tools at all. Its was a challenge as a hairstylist as we’re used to using a range of products and styling tools to create looks, but we’re really proud of the work created by the whole team.”

Sustainable know-how
All KMS products are climate-neutral, and Kao Salon Division supports a wind farm in northern Morocco that reduces the amount of fossil fuel-based electricity used in the country, and that strengthens the role of women in local communities by improving their social and economic situation. Some of the hair pieces include gothic hair accessories created using recycled KMS product packaging melted down and remoulded at an iconic toy factory to give them new life!
Equally fabrics by Vin+Omi were made using nettles collected from Kensington Gardens and transformed via a new coiling process into textile. Highgrove estate nettles and plant material were also bonded with latex and other plant material to form brand-new material. And one of the dresses was cellulose fibre collected from Highgrove, others were Netmorph – a new textile from recycled fishing nets.
Opinion-ated
We’ve been watching with fascination how the punkish-defenders of the Earth pairing, aka Vin and Omi themselves, have been getting increasingly closer with the Kao Salon Division and work with the manufacturer to shout ever louder about the need to stop F*!king the Planet. They say that work with KMS because of the commitment shown to its sustainability efforts, and they believe in them. You can click to find out more about their ethos: Vin + Omi
“We’re seeing that as products and salons become more sustainable, salon clients feel more reassured that their own hair care can be more guilt-free. Great changes have already been made in the industry and by so many salons that are working hard to become more sustainable as a business for their clients and the planet. It’s especially important during these cost and environmentally conscious times.” Vin + Omi.
Rock on y’all, there’s work to be done by hairdressers and salons everywhere.
