“We all know the importance a good hair day makes on our mood and well-being, and as lives pick up speed after the festive break, it can be easy to pull hair into a top knot and forget about it. But with new hair habits and a little education, you can make sure their hair looks good, and they feel great every day.

Small details can make a big difference. Start the new year with a new look which, Cos advises,  doesn’t have to be dramatic. A small change can make a big difference to a regular style; add a fringe, change the parting, and embrace the natural texture. Keep ahead of the trends and talk to clients about making a change.

Regular trims

Educate clients who like long hair on why they need a regular trim. Removing split ends helps hair stay healthy and will keep clients returning to you regularly. Introduce something new at every visit; long hair can be exciting too!

Home styling

For clients who can’t survive without their heat tools, demonstrate how to use them most efficiently. Effective styling lessens heat exposure on hair, a definite bonus for hair health. Reiterate the importance of heat protection products and the art of air drying.

In-salon treatments

For their first visit after the New Year festivities, recommend a nourishing and detoxing hair treatment at the backwash. Clients who have never experienced an in-salon treatment will instantly see a difference!

Take-home treatments

Talk to them about their homecare regime, ensuring they use the right products between salon visits to keep hair healthy.

Food knowledge

If clients are starting a New Year diet this month, talk to them about the importance of the right diet for their hair. Did they know that the omega-3 fatty acids in fish like salmon are natural shine boosters ? That vitamin A, iron, beta carotene, folate, and vitamin C in spinach help prevent hair breakage? It’s up to you to let them know, so get teaching!

Cut out and keep as they say! Distribute among your team, from youngsters and trainees, to even senior stylists who might need a nudge. Make 2023 the year you really emphasise to your clients what it means to be an expert!
