An invite backstage to watch an eminent session stylist at work is not to be taken lightly – and when it’s Anna Cofone working her magic for a London Fashion Week show, you know the hair story will be a good one. This most recent venture has Anna heading up a team for Oribe working with designer Carlota Barrera. The simmering intensity of the clothes, hair and vibe is magnetic. Find out more:
ASERE, QUE BOLÁ
Designer Carlota visited Cuba for the first time at the end of 2001, and was emotionally enchanted. The personal experiences she gained over visits in the intervening 20 years inform this latest of her collections, which is her first to be held live in London: ASERE, QUE BOLÁ. It seeks to evoke the life of downtown Havana, the rawness of the Malecón, the street music, the sound of domino tiles in Plaza Vieja, El Vedado, the markets, the open doors, the ‘colectivo’, the chats between balconies, Carmita, Bárbara, Giordan…. and more. Dreamy!
We know Anna Cofone as an international session stylist of great repute – since her early days based in a London salon group grounded her well before a stellar career working for media, stylists and artists on shoots and shows. Today she is based primarily between London, New York, Paris and Copenhagen. Her name is regularly a credit on covers and shoots – she’s a favourite with the likes of Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa and the glossy mag fashion editors.
Showtime
Carlota Barrera’s SS23 show in London brings the lifestyle of Cuban streets to a young and “communitarian” skate park in Notting Hill, where the sound of the London trains blends with the show soundtrack. The track, an energetic mix of Cuban bands, trumpets from the documentary Cuba Feliz, voices collected from conversations between Carlota Barrera and family friends during her visit to the country, and house music, is created by Henri Bergmann and Wennink, husband and wife music duo. Clothes are traditional comfortable and light pieces in bright tones typical of Cuban culture;tHAIR INSPIRATION
Hair inspiration
Leading the Oribe hair team, Anna Cofone worked closely with Carlota to create the stunning hair looks seen on the catwalk of this season’s show. In the team: Nicole Pizer; Kathryn Dartnell; Katka Ferraro; Ellis Hopkinson; and Miabella Ristorp.
“The hair looks that I and the Oribe styling team created as the core looks for the show encapsulated Carlota Barrera’s celebration of individuality. Supporting the storytelling of Carlota’s collection, the hair evoked feelings of summer days at the beach, with hair pushed back in part with a beautifully natural sea-salt texture. The hair exuded luxurious volume and direction but with a natural ease that complemented this season’s collection.
Get the look
Anna says, just some of the go-to products to create the looks included the iconic Oribe Maximista – a weightless plumping mist that gives hair volume and movement – blow dried for glam fullness, perfect for the looks created giving hair a lived-in look with hold. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is the perfect invisible dry hair spray which helped us build incredible volume and sultry texture – leaving that just-styled hair look, it’s a brilliant alternative to dry shampoo that adds incredible volume, a sultry texture and sexy lift. Oribe Rough Luxury Molding Wax is also a key product for the hair looks for this show – a flexible paste wax with a semi-matte lustre, it allowed us to add texture, voluminous hold and touchable softness that complemented Carlota’s collection and designs perfectly.
“We worked with Oribe under the direction of Anna Cofone to create the looks of our Cuban inspired collection. Celebrating all identities is at the core of the brand, and having such a diverse casting we wanted to highlight everyone’s individuality. The show was all about fun, community and street life, and the styles created in partnership with Oribe were a good encapsulation of this.” Carlota Barrera, Fashion Designer
So cool! A real collaboration of creative like-minds!
