inspired by artists

Continuing our consideration of taking inspiration from outside fashion and hair, we look at two shows in London Fashion Week inspired by artists in different ways. Both shows were for rising designers, and each with the gifted session stylist Anna Cofone taking the lead on the hair teams.

Roksanda SS25, London

Inspired by the Hungarian artist Agnes Denis, and her provocative work “Wheatfield – A Confrontation”. For this, back in 1982, the artists had planted two acres of wheat in New York City as an act of rebellion. in Manhattan – which created a daring symbol in the city. Designer Roksanda was drawn in by this and the intrinsic meaning that wheat had in her own childhood.

Hair lead, Anna Cofone is global creative advocate for Authentic Beauty Concept and explains the hair this way: “The hair look for SS25 is a direct inspiration of this daring clash and mirrors this message with glossed hair crossing over in opposing directions and silhouettes – evoking the clean lines and varying textures present throughout the collection.

SS Daley SS25, London

For his first exclusively female collection, SS Daley explored the point where the codes of men’s and womenswear overlap. Think: strict tailoring meets splashy florals, starched shirting teamed with ceramic jewellery, and tuxedo bib pleats found on gathered dresses. The collection is inspired by the British artist Gluck who would paint floral arrangements for her girlfriend and lover, Constance Spry. Their mutual adoration for each other resulted in a passionate affair and becoming each other’s muses in the early 1930s.

Anna Cofone, Global Creative Advocate for Authentic Beauty Concept explain: “We explored the duality of the painter and their uniform with the way they would present themselves and the subject matter, which is markedly more feminine and light.  With this in mind, we created two distinctive looks to emulate the contrasting characters and enhance the pieces in the collection –  one look is masculine – inspired by Gluck’s beautifully groomed hair and the second – more feminine and whimsical – but with beautiful movement and sculpted shapes.”
