On The Edge – a brand new show inspired by Vidal Sassoon and presented by Tribu-te magazine – launched in London last week. Hosted at the Grand Cadogan Hall venue by Tribu-te publishers Mike Vincent and Nicky Pope with the help of Tim Hartley, the event welcomed an audience of 600 hairdressers who watched spellbound as six leading hair artists both revisited what they learned from Vidal, and revealed how it informs their work today:
Opening the show, Silvia Salerno, senior creative director at Sassoon Academy, presented an engaging piece inspired by the worlds of vintage style, surrealist art and English pastoralism, cutting peacefully in an atmospheric space.
Jay Mahmood, Goldwell global artistic ambassador for cutting, then took the stage and spoke eloquently about his career with, and admiration for Vidal Sassoon, while expertly cutting the cleanest of lines into hair that was sublimely well coloured. Neil Atkinson, senior creative director at Mahogany Hairdressing and Schwarzkopf Professional ambassador, followed. He presented us cool, dynamic shapes with beautiful colour work that were pure and stunning. John Vial, co-owner of Salon Sloane, and Revlon Professional global influencer claimed to be more familiar these days with session styling than cutting, yet showcased two immaculate cuts in the spotlight! His presentation paid tribute to designer Gareth Pugh with intriguing clothes styling. Trevor Sorbie and his artistic director at Trevor Sorbie international, Tom Connell worked side by side. Trevor cutting hair on stage for the first time in 12 years and rewarding us all with two models including his signature ‘wedge’ cut. Tom’s model gave us a haircut within a haircut, that moved to reveal a new take on the firefly… simply wonderful.
To close the show, Tim Hartley, global educator and co-founder of On The Edge, came on stage with his artistic collaborator Tina Andersen. A showman par excellence, Tim always has something new to share – and didn’t disappoint. He and Tina cut three fantastic ‘Sassoon’ inspired heads of hair then married them with pre- cut ‘hats’ for a dramatic, thoughtful and innovative finish to the show.
All in all, a fabulous first night for On The Edge, which Tribu-te magazine now plans to tour in Europe. Thanks were given particularly to the sponsors of this evening who have helped bring this exciting new show to life: Schwarzkopf Professional, Goldwell, Revlon Professional and Sassoon Professional.
