You need staying power to truly achieve anything meaningful in life and hairdresser Tony Rizzo, founder of the Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation has more than most! Not only has Tony remained a key figure in the industry for his hairdressing skills and salon group Sanrizz, but his work for the Alternative Hair charity is phenomenal. And long-lasting. At last his fantastic work is recognised and we call him Tony Rizzo MBE. We are thrilled for him.
The MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) is a British honour conferred on individuals for their achievement or service to a community that has a long-lasting impact.
Of Italian heritage but committed to life in the UK, Tony and his family, have each dedicated over 40 years to the Alternative Hair Show — a cause born from personal tragedy and driven by the goal of helping others. Invited to Windsor Castle, Tony was presented with the honour by HRH Prince William. What an honour in real and emotional terms. The prince warmly congratulated Tony and expressed genuine interest in the work of the Alternative Hair charity and how the fight continues today.
Tony says: “I want to thank everyone who has stood by me through the darkest times. Every day brings us closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease; leukaemia and all blood cancers. This is an incredibly proud moment for me. From humble beginnings as an Italian immigrant to receiving this honour, I am deeply grateful and truly humbled.”
The Alternative Hair Show
Many of Tribu-te’s readers and followers around the World are familiar with the long-running Alternative Hair Show which is a primary fundraiser for the Alternative Hair charity. Tony also expressed heartfelt thanks to the many people, artists, sponsors, and supporters from across the hair industry who have made the Alternative Hair Show what it is today. With their help, over £15 million has been raised for research and family support initiatives.
Bravo Tony and all at the AHS. We salute you.
