The third edition of The Art of Session Styling seminar with Anna Cofone took place early in November, and Tribu-te was proud to attend. We love Anna’s work as a sessionista for designer shows, editorials and videos, and it’s a joy to see how she shares her expertise with the students on her seminars. Come explore the process with us:
No ordinary classroom
Working over two or three days with a small group of students, Anna inspires, demonstrates and teaches skills in session styling. From interpreting a client’s brief, to creating mood boards to work with, and detailed advice and skills in creating styles – Anna’s tuition is incredible to experience.
There is no requirement to have had experience or be a particularly standard of skill in session styling. This is a small group to
be in, and allows for finding your own level. With several accomplished stylists in Anna’s team, there is time for everyone to feel supported and empowered. A mixed group with a common passion in session styling.
Taking a studio in East London, the set up for students o
n The Art of Session Styling is founded on a backstage show scenario. Anna’s team provides fully stocked session styling kits for each student. Hair tools, styling products, wefts and wigs, accessories … it’s all you could dream of needing. Part of the seminar is understanding what to use, when, how and why. The attention to detail is awesome.
A time to learn
As well as demos from Anna, each student has time to work both on doll heads and on a live model. With a max of 16 attendees, there’s plenty of time for 1-1 time with Anna, not to mention help from her very accomplished team of hairdressers who are part of her everyday crew.
The clever part of the seminar programme is bringing in guests from the fashion world to help demystify what goes on ‘at the show’. To share insights and build up the confidence of the students.
There’s also a visit from a top photographer. This November, Anna introduce Jack Eames who spent time photographing each student’s model. The experience of seeing ‘what the photographer sees’ is supremely enlightening. It’s an essential part of session work and just a short time standing with him while he demonstrates what he sees and captures in each hairstyle is an immeasurably important moment.

A double win is knowing that Anna and her team are working for the benefit of Anna’s CIC enterprise, Hair & Care. This is &
nbsp;the project that helps empower blind and low vision women and girl to care for their hair. As well as relying upon volunteer hairdressers to support the workshops Hair & Care hosts, Anna needs to funding and her seminars are invaluable in raising funds. All profits from fees charged go to Hair & Care.
