The AIPP Grand Trophy competition 2020-2021 is underway. The line up of finalists is revealed (see full list HERE) and they will be judged by AIPP member magazines led by the global publisher for Tribu-te magazine, Mike Vincent. Organized once a year, the AIPP awards were established in 1997 with the purpose of awarding annual prizes to the best hair fashion collections. A truly inspiring contest as it embraces excellent work drawn from hairdressing communities all over the world. There are five categories including best commercial, best avant-garde, best colour, best men, best video.

From time to time we focus on sharing collections and short notes on some of the names you might find less familiar in the UK. Christian Ríos is a finalist in the best men’s and best colour categories with two interesting collections. The young Spanish hairdresser stands as one great promise of international hairdressing by reaching the final of the awards with two categories. Polaris competes in best colour with a collection that is inspired by the soft and surprising hues of the northern lights, a tribute to the chromatic richness of nature. Leben does it in best men with a work that vindicates sexual freedom and denounces the abuses of power in the darkest times of fanaticism.

It is important to note that Christian has started his career as a creative hairdresser only two years ago and that in such a short time his work has achieved an unusual international prestige. Only this year, he has been finalist in the Figaro Awards in the men’s collection category, and finalist in the International Visionary Awards, in the cut & colour category, in which he won the Runner Up recognition. In addition, his work is gaining widespread circulation with publications around the world. “For me, seeing everything I have experienced this year professionally is difficult to overcome. It has been so incredible that I could have never imagined it. However, that encourages me to continue fighting harder to reach new heights”, he says and we are wishing him best of luck with the Grand Final.
