Myla + Davis fusing style and sustainability

In Uncategorized by Nicky

Marking 15 years since launching her first Myla + Davis  salon in South London in 2009, Katya Milavic Davies, talks to us about fusing style and sustainability in a salon brand.  Today, Myla + Davis is found in four locations including East Dulwich, Brixton and Herne Hill as well as the ‘flagship’ Crofton Park location. It’s here that we find the ethos and DNA of Myla + Davis expressed beautifully.

Katya says: “We’re founded on our guiding principles of style, sustainability, and community, which are reflected cohesively across our creative imagery and four London salons. We launched the business in 2009, and while the hairdressing landscape has evolved, our style and commitment to the environment have remained consistent as we strive to create welcoming salon spaces where clients feel seen and heard.”

Visiting the Myla + Davis salon in Crofton Park the most striking element is how the large windows invite the outside in. Light and warmth flood this corner location, and the use of natural, wood-flooring and wood finish on bespoke furniture reflect this perfectly. The work of a talented carpenter is evident throughout. Generous shelving for products and expansive counter surfaces for styling stations, make this an open and inviting space. Mirrors running the width of the walls proclaim this a transparent environment – what you see is what you get!

A large reception desk is placed at the door to welcome visitors. It’s a reminder that this is a business that runs efficiently, and keeps the client front of mind.

Katya says: “We wanted it to be a reminder that people are at the heart of everything we do; our aim is always to be present for people, to listen to them, value them, and ensure they feel genuinely welcomed. Whether it’s a warm hello on a cold day, a friendly chat if they need it, or just making sure we brighten someone’s day in whatever small way we can. To us, this plays the most significant part.”

Brand affiliation

At Myla + Davis the preferred partner brand is Davines. They have been carefully chosen to align with Katya and the 55-strong team across the group.  There’s a strong focus on community and education as well as creativity and sustainability. Greenery is plentiful –  a local plant shop keeps them fresh and flourishing. Product displays are straightforward, inviting questions and purchases.

Interestingly the colour bar is also out on show. “A significant design decision was to bring our Davines colour area out onto the main floor, where creativity takes place. The colour area sits proudly infull view of our clients, showcasing the collaborative artistry of our team—we wanted that to play a key part in the space’s energy.”

No fuss but plenty of attention.  We love what Katya has done. The Crofton Park salon is indicative of the Myla + Davis brand found at the other premises, too. Colours and locations vary, but the brand signature is kept front of vision at all times. So cool.
