London Eye: January 2025

London Eye: August 2025

In Uncategorized by Nicky

Our London Eye is photographer Jack Eames who has just the vision we like. Jack sees beauty in objects and people, scenery, art and so on, and he also sees beauty in intention, emotion and human frailty. We’ve invited him to share things he’s seen recently that we might all enjoy. Provocative, thoughtful, delightful.. it’s all in the mix for late Summer. Read, watch, listen.. immerse yourself… Here’s his list:

Cassi Namoda

Jack Eames London Eye Tribute Magazine Turner Gallery Cassi Nomada

(exhibition at the Turner Gallery, Margate)

“I always try and get down to the Turner Gallery in Margate when I can, especially in summer. It means you can also enjoy a lovely walk along the sandy beach. It’s just a stone’s throw from us in Whitstable in Kent, and they always have brilliant exhibitions on. Right now you can find beautiful artwork by artist Cassi Namoda across the large bright windows in the Turner’s Sunley Gallery – absolutely stunning with the summer sunshine pouring through and seascape backdrop! You can enjoy the piece from inside or outside the gallery until the 21st September.  While you’re in Margate pop over to TKE Studios (run by the Tracey Emin Foundation) –  Why not time your visit for the TKE Summer Fair on August 30th.

David Lynch

Jack Eames London Eye Tribute Magazine David Lynch Season Prince Charles Cinema

(film – David Lynch season)

It’s no secret, especially to long time readers, that I’m a David Lynch fan. He is one of my favourite directors. I love his dreamlike surrealism and the unsettling eeriness of his work. For fans in London this summer who want to immerse themselves in as much Lynchian goodness as possible then check out the David Lynch season at the Prince Charles cinema. They are showing all the best of Lynch’s cinematic repertoire, including all night Twin Peaks marathons, his short films, and some of my favourite feature lengths like The Straight Story. They’ve got all sorts of showings between now and the end of October, and as the only independent cinema in Central London they are a great space to support!

HAIM / I Quit

Jack Eames London Eye Tribute Magazine HAIM I Quit

(music)

HAIM are an American rock band comprising of three sisters from Los Angeles. Their latest album released in June has quickly been added to studio playlist. I Quit feels like classic HAIM with a twist of new, blending classic rock, pop & subtle country notes with vocal melodies and punchy lyrics. They recently headlined at Dreamland in Margate, which is one of my favourite venues. They were supported by the local Social Singing Choir after the group executed a 34-day long social media campaign with more than 20 videos of them covering HAIM songs in a bid to open for them. HAIM continue their I Quit tour in the UK in London this October – in the meantime give the album a listen.

Alphabet – A Collaborative Project

Jack Eames London Eye Tribute Magazine Alphabet A Collaborative Project Book

(book)

I’ve mentioned 46pgs before as part of my London Eye piece. They are a brilliant publication featuring the best of grungy collage and graphic design – right up my street. Recently they have been working with artist Ubi Vermis to put together a new book that I am incredibly excited for: Alphabet – A Collaborative Project. Bringing together artists from all over the world, Alphabet is a piece of art, curating a design for each letter of the alphabet. Thirteen designers have each created unique designs, while the other 13 are tackled by creator Ubi himself. The book is going to be an exceptional celebration of artistic and design talent and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.
