Meet Hoochteestyle
A nineties-loving millennial, hairstylist Nneka Allison has launched Hoochteestyles to blend nostalgia with innovation, replicating some of the hairstyles that dominated Black popular culture back in the day. She has captured the imagination of the consumers with vibrant social media, and appeared in leading publications including Black Beauty & Hair, and S
pell Magazine. Gigs on music video for artists, and collars with media personality, lvorian Doll, have also grabbed attention. Obviously! Just browse @Hoochteestyles and we’re betting you’ll be entranced. So cool, so retro, so clever.

Meet Nneka Allison
A professional hairstylist with a NVQ Level 2 styling qualification, Nneka has honed her skills to pursue a career in hairstyling. However, rather than tread a conventional path of providing clients with the hairstyles du jour, she laid plans for a unique concept. Enter Hoochteestyles, a movement and creative house inspired by a simple yet powerful mission statement: To pay homage to ’90s Black culture – hairstyles, films, fashion – an era renowned for its flamboyance, innovation, and artistry.
Nneka, currently based in Birmingham, operates Hoochteestyles in a studio that looks and feels like a Black beauty parlour from a bygone era. She has dressed it replete with iconic imagery from ’90s pop culture and a steady supply of classic ’90s and early 2000 dancefloor fillers to h
elp clients tap into their inner Hoochtee alter ego. She also provides a mobile hairstyling service, allowing customers across the UK the opportunity to be Hoochtified.
Inspiration for you
Using old-school methods of styling the hair is also an integral part of the Hoochteestyles ethos. From flat irons, and classic hair products such as spritzes, soft gels, and pomades, Nneka honours this golden hairstyling era. She has meticulously researched the correct names and terminology for the iconic styles that have become firmly embedded in popular consciousness.
Importantly, Nneka is also fervent about celebrating the creators of the culture and frequently references and namechecks those who set the trends. She explains, “It’s important to me make sure all information is accurate not only to the audience who are seeing these styles with fresh eyes, but also paying homage to the creators.
“Hoochteestyles is not only a creative house but a movement that is dedicated to preserving black culture, advocating for female empowerment and giving others the confidence to be true to one’s self. I want to continue to pay homage to the trailblazing women who paved the way for me and the future generations to come.”
