So nice to see smiles and warm hugs for all the attendees at the 5th edition of Anna Cofone’s Masterclass: The Art of Session Hairstyling. At the final day of the course on 18 April last week, the heady blend of joy and achievement was evident.  No wonder everyone was happy – the course was delivered by one of the most highly regarded session stylists of UK hairdressing: Anna herself.

Tribu-te Magazine has been alongside Anna Cofone from the outset. We love how she founded this awesome 3-day course three years ago. It combines hands-on learning, education, and creativity and it’s fabulous to see it fly. Anna’s Masterclass provides an opportunity for hairstylists of all levels to hone their skills and elevate their practice.

Anna congratulated everyone on a great vibe!

Importantly, we don’t forget that this course is also a fundraiser for Hair & Care. To be sure,  100% of profits go towards empowering blind and low vision women and girls. Hair & Care gives accessible hair and self-care education. So attending the Masterclass gives everyone a double whammy of happiness!

All kit is provided: vital to to building skills

This course is held in East London (on Anna’s home turf where her fabulous warehouse studio is found, too) and brought hairstylists together for a blend of technical development and creative discovery. Participants experienced the opportunity for hands-on learning, exploring the nuances of session styling through live demonstrations and collaborative challenges. They were given an insight into the pace and precision of backstage environments in a fashion week deep-dive.

The atmosphere is collaborative

While there’s plenty of time for 1 to 1 attention with Anna and her crack team of session stylists who support her, it’s collaborative, too. There was a lot of occasion for working closely in teams on live models. The entire intention is to give attendees time to acquire and refine skills while developing a deeper understanding of how to translate ideas from concept through to execution.

We find just watching everyone work to be tantalising and so impressive. Here’s what attendee Hayley Penny told us having finished this 5th edition of the Masterclass:

“I came to this course because I wanted to really elevate the skills I already have, to be able to move off into more editorial shoots, and to build my own collection. It has been the most amazing experience – we have learned so, so much. Anna and the team have given us so much space to learn, to get out of our comfort zone, space to be scared, but also to then step into and realise our potential – to listen to our head, and our gut, and produce some really cool stuff.”

Sponsor support matters

The Art of Session Hairstyling Masterclass is both about delivering education and raising money, it’s vital to have sponsorship as well as the fees requested from those attending. This time, the headline sponsor was Authentic Beauty Concept, who desire to make beauty more inclusive and accessible for all. Olivia Garden provided brushes and tools for attendees – and Cloud Nine gifted a place to one lucky hairstylist to join the masterclass for free. Additionally Amika and Remi Cachet offered products to support the tuition.

Next time, could it be you?

This edition brought together an exceptional group of talent from the UK, Europe and the US Honestly, as a witness to every edition of the Masterclass to date, Tribu-te Magazine can endorse how accessible it is to a wide range of skills, creativity, and individual style.
