Hari’s turns 50

In Uncategorized by Nicky

There’s one word we love to hear in hairdressing: Longevity. Too often it feels like the fast pace of change in our industry today forces so much to evolve out of recognition. The past 10 years have been brutal with many traditional names and respected groups not making it through the most challenging times. To find something of longstanding which represents stability and resilience is joyful.

Hari’s Hair salon in London turned 50 years old this year. A remarkable feat for a family-run company. A quote from Hari Salem and family states: “It’s a moment to recognise what’s been built; the standards that define us, and the relationships that have made Hari’s what it is today.”

Let’s find out more.

Founded by Hari Salem in 1976 on Sydney Street, London (the heart of Chelsea) Hari’s Hair has since flourished magnificently. Today it’s a multi-award-winning, five-strong salon group, arguably one of the most recognised and respected names in the hairdressing industry. Headed up by the inimitable Hari Salem, joined over time by the family, the reputation established is one of being trés cool and a la mode… the place to be and be seen.

Driven by craftsmanship and client care, Hari’s has thrived over five decades embracing the iconic style of clients including Bianca Jagger, The Rolling Stones, Twiggy, and Sienna Miller. Trendy, vibrant, friendly… and the story continues.

Dedicated to people, passion, and purpose, the business is now moving into the next generation. Hari’s children, Lucan and Tassie Salem, are responsible for leading and nurturing a new wave of talented creatives. They emphasise how investing in people and placing learning at the heart of the business has shaped a legacy in which mentorship, drive, and inspiration have led to longevity of service, loyal staff and future growth. There’s that word again – it’s the longevity that demonstrates the intention of the brand.

Timeless

To mark five decades of service to more than 70,000 clients, Hari’s has launched a year of celebratory activations. The vibe is about honouring its status as one of London’s most revered hair salon groups.

Next up, from 9–12 June, Haris will present Peonies in Bloom in collaboration with Burnt Fen Flowers and Kérastase. Across all salons, abundant peony installations and floristry stations, created in partnership with LOréal Professionnel, will celebrate the season in full bloom. Clients will be gifted bunches of peonies alongside curated Kérastase goody bags, while the Kings Road salon will feature a wooden flower cart hosted by a florist from Burnt Fen Flowers, who will prepare the bouquets. Created as a celebration of client loyalty, Peonies in Bloom is a love letter to the clients who have grown alongside the brand as Haris has evolved into a five-salon group rooted in artistry, community and seasonal transformation.

On 21 July 2026, clients will be able to enjoy blow-dries for £19.76 in recognition of the launch year, a rare, limited-time indulgence at an exceptional price. Hari himself says: “50 years is an important milestone, but what excites me is that it doesn’t feel like the end, there’s so much more for us to do, especially as my son and daughter have taken over the business. When you put your heart into something, it just proves it can stand the test of time.”

Moving into the future

Lucan Salem, Hari’s son and now MD, says: “At Hari’s, our mission is to redefine excellence in hairdressing – combining world-class craft with warmth, creativity, and genuine care, so every client leaves feeling confident, valued and inspired. We continue to invest in people and products, ensuring the standards set by my father in 1976 remain unmatched today.”

Through decades of change, Hari’s says they have remained guided by the same values, care, craft, and consistency.

Stand up (literally or metaphorically!) and lets add our applause to this fabulous achievement. Here’s to longevity and creating legends! Bravo from Tribu-te Magazine.
