Winning The Big One 2020, French-born but London-based Emmanuel Esteban caught our attention for his avant-garde wizardry which is complex technically but simply beautiful. He has continued to amass trophies including the AIPP Grand Trophy 2023, and of course, plenty of British Hairdressing Awards. We caught up recently for a peek into his current portfolio of artistic imagery:

Vertical Horizon

Paying homage to artist Mark Rothko, Emmanuel conceived this collection to express a vision of the human condition, tapping directly into the viewer’s emotions.

Influenced by Rothko whom he admires, Emmanuel Esteban embraces these principles (the human condition transcending traditional representational forms) in both stage performances and the creation of his wigs. In Vertical Horizon, he employs detailed colouring techniques and organic shapes to evoke profound emotional responses, echoing Rothko’s belief in the transformative power of art.

Vertical Horizon showcases Emmanuel Esteban’s artistic admiration. Through adept use of linear coloring techniques against a single-color backdrop, Esteban intertwines organic and structural shapes. This avant-garde collection, he says, strives to capture human expressions, forging a profound connection between the hairstyles and their observers.
