Crisis at Christmas

Crisis at Christmas salons

Hairdressers helping out at Christmas confirms how utterly loving and giving you all are! Crisis at Christmas has been setting up temporary shelters in cities around the UK for many years – offering a safe place to stay for our increasing homeless population. Not only are these shelters a slice of hope and warmth for the homeless over the so-called festivities (hard to contemplate when you’re literally living on the streets)… the point is to restore dignity and opportunity to many in need.

Crisis salons

While visiting the Crisis at Christmas shelters – both overnight and day centres – as well as getting practical help in how to lift yourself out of sleeping rough or sofa-surfing, Crisis offers health and social support, too. This relies on volunteers for much needed services; doctors, counsellors, chiropodists, dentists and hairdressers operate pop-up clinics and salons which are simply incredible for what they do. For many of the Crisis guests, the hairdressing services are bliss – a much needed boost to self-esteem. Some guests might visit the salon every day of the 2-weeks they are allowed to remain at the shelter. This could be the first time in months they’ve been touched by another human being. How fantastic and a big shout out to the many hairdressers who give their time to work in them.

To run the salons, Crisis also relies upon gifts and donations. This year we are pleased to have married up several of our favourite brands in offering products to stock the salons. Indola, Schwarkozpf Professional and Scrummi towels. you’re so kind! Thanks to you, our hairdressing volunteers can really help make someone’s Christmas even better. These brands have literally jumped at our request for help .

This year particular, because of the likelihood of sickness striking, we need more volunteers to sign up and work or be on call. To volunteer and gift your time and expertise, or simply to find out more, click HERE.  Remember to say you’re a hairdresser (or you can volunteer to help generally, too)

If you’re not free to work, then why not give a financial gift – just as important… HERE
