City of Lights

The long-anticipated debut of Rush International Artistic team at the Tribu-te Show in Paris proved a triumph! Andy Heasman and Tina Farey, the international artistic director and editorial director respectively headed out to the Folies Bergere theatre in the French ‘city of lights’ earlier this month to demonstrate the strength of UK hairdressing. Overseeing the show production, Rush academy director Adam Bryant helped present something spectacular!

Tribu-te global publisher, Mike Vincent, has made a great success of Tribu-te’s annual show (usually held with both French, and British editions). This was his first invitation to Rush, and he gave the team carte blanche to do as they pleased for a packed audience of more than 1000 industry hair fans. The premise of the show is to present the best hairdressers on the barest of stages – hair unplugged indeed. Andy and Tina chose to create two avant-garde looks reflecting the Metaverse and the massive influence the digital world has on our lives now. For inspiration, they looked back at Tina’s 2008 Avant Guard collection called Cyber 8, which was inspired by digital gaming.

In this collection bespoke Perspex pieces were incorporated in the hairstyles. So, with upcycling and repurposing of plastics being so important these days, Tina and Andy reused the pieces as part of the Avatar looks, they created for the show.  Building the pieces onto bald caps, and wigs they had created the looks came to life and the models were transformed, looking like they had just stepped out of a modern video game and the audience applauded and whooped as the they walked the stage of this iconic Parisienne theatre.

It was a fabulous experience,” says Adam. “To come back from the pandemic and this be our first major international show was incredible. The warm welcome for the audience and to be able to showcase a collection that was created almost 15 years ago and bring it right up to date was very exciting.”

Tres bien fait! As the French announced. And thanks to the team at Rush for doing London proud – shining bright in the city of lights for sure!
