B Corp; your next step?

In Uncategorized by Nicky

Between hundreds of hair appointments, water usage, energy consumption, chemical ingredients, and microplastics in products, the hair industry carries a significant environmental footprint. This is why pursuing B Corp Certification is not just an option, but a strategic next step. Sustainability is no longer a trend, but an expectation people increasingly have.

March: B Corp Month

In March, we have B Corp Month which puts purpose-led business firmly in the spotlight. Founded by sustainability experts and hairdressers, Green Salon Collective is calling on the professional hairdressing industry to recognise the B Corp logo as a trusted mark of integrity, accountability and genuine progress. We’ve long watched and admired their work – now at the encouragement of team at GSC, we’re sharing our enthusiasm!

The Next Step for Sustainable Hair Salons

So let’s start with the essentials. What is a B Corp Certification? We may already recognise the logo from food or consumer goods brands, but let’s talk about what it really stands for.

B Corp an integrated business certification that examines and verifies a company’s social and environmental performance, legal accountability, and transparency. Becoming a certified B Corp is a signal to your customers, employees, and investors that your business is committed to responsible practices that positively impact people and the planet, according to internationally recognised standards.

Each March, B Lab leads the global campaign B Corp Month, a space that celebrates the businesses that balance profit with purpose, bringing together thousands of Certified B Corporations around the world.

What is the real impact?

Susan Scow, Sustainability Impact Specialist at Eileen Fisher Inc, says: “B Corp Certification is more than a label. It’s a vital tool that helps us live our values and expand our positive impact”.

Whether inviting B Lab to assess your salon or actively partnering with B Corp-certified suppliers, you become part of a growing movement within the industry. You will be part of setting a standard that resonates across the hair universe:

  • Stylists: It reinforces confidence that the brands and services you work with align with your values.
  • Salon owners: It strengthens sustainability claims and ensures accountability.
  • Whole industry: It opens space for dialogue and inspires continuous improvement.

This March, we encourage our hair professionals to take action and walk together toward a greener future for our industry. Explore the list of B Corp-certified businesses in the hair sector and learn more about the B Corp certification process here.
