A stellar event in the Tribu-te Magazine UK calendar, the Hair Pieces 2024 evening last week was a triumph. It’s our opportunity to present the best artists in the most creative spaces. Each year the team at Tribu-te invites accomplished hairdressers and teams to demonstrate the skills that mark them out as innovative, imaginative forces. We’ve just shared with you the 4th edition of this special, immersive event – combining our show with the Grand Final of The Big One Trophy. This is where the most exciting professionals work ‘live and unplugged’, and the audience is free to choose who to watch, admire and engage with .
Hair Pieces 2024
More then 250 guests attended the Battersea Arts Centre on Monday 11th November 2024. Called upon to enjoy this evening of extravagance and ingenuity, their mood was upbeat and the appetite for revelling in the joy of hairdressing acute.
Opening the show and welcoming the audience, Tribu-te’s UK Publisher Nicky Pope said: “We believe it’s integral to the future of hairdressing that the most special artists continue to deliver live shows to inspire and energise future generations. It’s our job as a progressive and experienced media company to provide platforms to show off what hairdressing can do.”
How we roll
With the doors open and the bar thronging with happy visitors, attention turned to the important matter of what to see! Show teams were placed around this heritage building. The architecture and gravitas of the venue brings a particular atmosphere which presenting teams and audience alike just relish. The roster of teams and artists was stunning. Each is invited to entertain, amuse and inform the audience; no brief, no restrictions. For two hours the audience is free t move around the venue. Then to gather in the Grand Hall for a finale parade of models. This show was compelling and visually spectacular.
Toni&Guy Art Team
Toni & Guy Art Team was represented by two daring and brilliant hairdressers sharing their vision of avant-garde hair. We loved hosting Daria Laett and Lucia Siero with the international artistic director Efi Davies as their mentor. Their detail, finesse and exquisite vision of beauty delivered models who were sophisticated, intriguing and breathtaking with avant-garde pieces and exaggerated shapes.
Sassoon Academy
Sassoon Academy made their debut at Hair Pieces with a post-modern punk influenced show. Led by Zsolt Nagy, a senior educator at the London Academy, and supported by fashion-focussed Matt Catrol Grubb, we were mesmerised by the sharp lines, punkalicious shapes and moods of a thoroughly edgy presentation. This is Sassoon evolving continually to embrace pop culture and explore new representations of line, texture and context in hair. We hope they become regulars!
Oribe Creatives
Oribe Creatives Kathryn Dartnell and Michelle Garande are perfect to represent this iconic brand. They were keen to demonstrate the elegance and poise of luxe hairstyling on Afro/Black textured hair. Braiding, shaping and bending curls and waves with dexterity and flow which left us all open-mouthed. They created charming looks with enviable allure which were delivered as if this were an everyday occurrence. You could sense the respect exuded by all spectators… these girls know their stuff indeed!
Davide Spinelli Education
Davide Spinelli combines technical ability with a lightness of touch that belies the level of skill required to produce looks that are gentle yet clever. His way of melding cutting and styling to echo the zeitgeist of the times is remarkable. His signature style is to show how you can create exciting looks with just that little detail to make it utterly individual. Old-school meets a flutter of avant-garde adventurism. We love it.
Billi Currie Collective
The Billi Currie Collective took over space at our venue to emulate the passion, vibe and energy of Oh-la-la Parisien café society. Their show was boisterious in delivery yet the hair was tres seductive and clever… expressing individualism, exploiting a use of texture to say everything and nothing. Innovative staging was romantic yet rudely sexy – the team turned heads for all the right reasons. We’re still in awe.
Darrel Starkey Wigtorship
Darrel Starkey has channelled his energy into exploring the possibility of working with wigs and added hair pieces to great effect. Bigger, louder and more dramatic than you could imagine, his daring and expertise in creating stories with his Wigtorship is not to be overlooked. Combining technique with ambition, Darrel is no afraid to play with proportion and does so to great effect. Remember his name, you saw his show here first…!
Creative Pieces by L’Oréal Professionnel
Creative Pieces Gallery hosted by L’Oréal Professionnel was an expression of love for hairdressing. Inviting contributions from hairdressers all over the UK, the concept was to share something that shared each person’s aesthetic or vison of hairdressing. The gallery displayed items ranging from photographs, hair wefts and wigs, hats, scissor and comb, books, film scripts, quotes, clothes and paintings. Browse, question, imagine and enjoy. This was a moment to reflect and appreciate our industry. Thanks to all contributors.
Finale piece
A finale parade of more than 20 models from the artist teams ushered in the second part of the evening: The presentation of The Big One awards 2024 by Tribu-te Magazine. Host Nicky Pope welcomed guests to celebrate everything good about our industry. To see the winners, click HERE.
Thanks to all our friends and supporter, the show teams and sponsors Oribe and L’Oréal Professionnel. This was a night of tremendous joy and artistic creativity. This is hairdressing as it needs to continue.
