They’ve worked so hard on it and Brooks & Brooks new home is perfect! Jamie and Sally Brooks have relocated their luxe salon (after 21 years) into a new premises in London’s Covent Garden area. They’ve settled in and will be putting up the Christmas decorations to welcome clients for a special end to the year.

Time for a change

It seemed overwhelming to Jamie and Sally when circumstance forced them to look for a new location. Their  existing well-established premises were slap in the middle of an area up for major renovation. Fortune was kind and a chance meeting with Charles Worthington introduced the idea of taking over Charle’s erstwhile flagship salon as he was moving out. Ta dah! The beginning of a grand redesign.

Jamie takes up the story: “The minute we stepped inside we both fell in love with the quirky rooms and the space this allowed us to create within it.”

There was plenty to be done – the site needed a complete overhaul but the Brooks vision was to retain the aesthetic of the heritage of the house with the wonky walls, fireplaces and beautiful stair case.

It’s sophisticated and beautiful, but Sally will be pleased if you call it homely. “The salon really is a home (the home of the hair artists)” she says. “Here each detail is considered; it has points of interest in every corner that the client sees, feels and talks about, but at the same time gives the team a relaxed uncomplicated way of working.

Heritage and modern

The suspended metal workstations are designed for both the client and the team alike. Plug sockets; a space designed for a kit bag to fit perfectly; somewhere to hang a client’s bag; a drawer; a mirror and electrical appliances have a home. Importantly each section has a trolley that perfectly fits into the unit so that there are no trolleys parked in odd places in the salon – a simple minimalistic, beautiful design that works perfectly throughout.

Lighting was designed for a grade 2 listed building. Each light suspended from beautiful black metal work. Flooring was stripped back and re-stained to safeguard the character of the building with natural wood employed everywhere. Large windows allow for natural light to flood through and plants soften lines and bring personality. A palette of white, metallics and naturals is punctuated occasionally with the use of a bright pink or mustard yellow paint.

Enter Brooks & Brooks… and breathe! It’s a safe haven for creativity to blossom.
