A marriage of sustainability with sophisticated aesthetics is how the latest salon in the Edward James group is described. That’s got to be a union of head and heart we thought. Our interest piqued, we have pored over the photography and declare this is indeed a love story for hairdressing!
Edwards James on Hill Street in the West London location of Richmond on Thames doesn’t just boast a premium address sited on one of the smartest streets overlooking the river. It is a destination in itself.
A 2,000 sq. ft flagship salon for the group now numbering four locations, this is a confirmation of the Edward James signature of luxe hairdressing. Here are the details to share:
The inside story
Large street facing-windows are bordered with lights to emulate the glamour of star’s dressing room. This promises an opulent interior. Yet inside one of the most striking features is a distinctive forest installation, and the use of tree trunks to support work benches – making use of 67 responsibly-sourced tree trunks.the juxtaposition of nature and high-end, modern fittings is unusual and striking. It conspires to set a mood of calmness, separating visitors from the bustling town. But make no mistake, there is nothing rustic about this salon.
The whole interior is sustainably-curated, and enhanced by bespoke, elegant lighting from noted designer Paolo Moschino and Pooky Lighting. The salon design minimises the use of plastics, plaster, concrete and has been constructed using low-VOC paint, low-voltage lighting and also features mid-century design pieces. However, also you’ll discover sumptuous, graphic wallpaper in the backwash area, table lamps with patterned shades, the joyful use of strong colour on walls and for soft furnishings which is modern and exciting. There’s a lot going on, but it’s friendly and actually all works.
Statement services
Offering hair and beauty treatments, and a VIP area, the salon is open 7-days a week, with 20 dedicated workstations.
It’s no surprise to find an eclectic choice of premium haircare brands on the shelves including Oribe, Aveda and Olaplex. Statement brands for a statement salon. Really quite something.
