Having been of no fixed abode for some time, Sassoon heads home to Soho. Word reaches us of plans for a fabulous new academy and salon concept the ‘House of Sassoon’ to be sited on Greek Street in London.

Address your correspondence to 16-17 Greek Street, Soho, London W1D 4DR. Here in the fizzing heart of the city, construction is underway for the ‘House Of Sassoon’ concept. This will be a combined salon/academy/studio space as well as the launch of an exclusive members club and dedicated ambassador programme.
Working with an elegant Georgian façade (previous tenants having included Central Saint Martin Fashion College and Conde Nast College of Fashion and Design), the premises will represent a new era for the Sassoon brand.
Here you’ll find, arranged over five floors, a spacious reception area featuring a dedicated retail space with a complete range of professional tools and educational materials. The salon will be located at the front of the building on the ground floor and will be at the centre of everything that happens.
Sassoon education delivered by Sassoon Academy
As you’d expect, the design will be Minimalist echoing the clean lines and a contemporary styling that is the core philosophy of Sassoon. Here also will be a state-of-the-art multimedia theatre space with seating for 120 audience, capable of hosting hair and fashion shows in a catwalk or theatre style.
The ground floor is also the location for a staff training programme where students who complete the programme will go on to work in the global Sassoon salon locations.
Modern thinking
The building has four further white airy floors, which will be utilised in innovative ways. Beginners embarking on a Diploma course at the top, with a journey back down the building ahead as the course progresses. Symbolically, they will spend their final eight weeks on the ground floor alongside fully trained Sassoon professionals in the “salon ready’ phase of their training! Nice.
While the first floor will house classrooms (some of which open out onto a private decking space), there is also scope for Sassoon members to work on a rental/freelance basis.
The fourth floor is primarily open-plan office space for Academy and salon administration, consisting of Academy Principle, Salon Director, Creative Director, and the Administration team.
Heritage remaining
London has always been a fashion capital and Sassoon, indeed Vidal Sassoon, has a heritage and an affinity with the city that stretches back to the original Bond Street Salon, which opened in 1954. The Greek Street location reconfirms this for all visitors, because of course, it is anticipated to draw national and international interest.
