Our partners in several ventures, and in fact a BFF to many in the industry, in the past few years Green Salon Collective has worked hard to win hearts and minds in promoting better sustainable practices in UK hairdressing. Arguably now the industry’s leading authority on all matters recycling and environmental, GSC has worked tirelessly to turn attention to ways of protecting the future of our planet, and with it, the practice of hairdressing. We’d go so far as to warn that unless hairdressing becomes more sustainable, then we risk limiting our own futures. So pay attention to the next bit…
Best for the world
Following an in-depth assessment, Green Salon Collective has been awarded B Lab UK’s* ‘Best For The World’ B Corp status for 2022 after scoring in the top 5% of similarly sized B Corps worldwide. That’s a big fat wow! and bravo! from us. GSC was recognised under the Governance category, acknowledging the company’s ‘commitment to positively impact all its stakeholders’ in overall mission, ethics, accountability and transparency.
Who’s the B Lab? They are the bods who certify companies—known as B Corps—who are leading the way in transforming the economy to benefit all people, communities and the planet. To date, the B Lab global community includes 4,200 B Corps in 77 countries and 153 industries, and over 150,000 companies manage their impact with the B Impact Assessment and the SDG Action Manager
And it’s not just the B Lab who have recognised GSC’s work. The Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2022 have also named Green Salon Collective as the winner in the Best Progress Towards Circularity category, in recognition of its commitment to ‘recycling the unrecyclable’ by finding circular solutions to all salon waste. From oil-absorbing hair booms (made from hair cuttings) designed to protect our waters and wildlife, to plastic waste transformed into colour bowls, GSC is paving the way for a more eco-aware industry.
In their words
‘At Green Salon Collective, we are committed to finding and facilitating ways for salons to become more ethical and sustainable’ says Fry Taylor, co-founder of Green Salon Collective. ‘To be recognised for our work is very humbling and so appreciated, particularly at this level. Out of 5,000 Certified B Corporations worldwide, we are among the top 5% BCorps for Governance and proud to be one of the Best For The World™ this year. And we’re just getting started! We will continue collaborating with the global BCorp community to improve and positively impact all our stakeholders.
‘Our achievement in winning at the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards is an incredible honour and once which I hope will enable us to share our work with an even greater audience. As individuals and businesses, we should all be more committed to finding circular solutions for our waste and I hope our company mission will inspire others to take steps to live, and promote, a more sustainable lifestyle.’
The Green Salon Collective was established to find ways of reusing all salon waste, be it through recycling, composting or conversion into energy. From used foil and colour tubes, to salon towels, chemicals and hair cuttings, the GSC is the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK and Ireland, with all profits raised donated to charity.
