It’s always exciting to see new work which promises a new direction and vision. Tom Connell, hair art director at Davines, recently headed up a crack team of creatives to produce the new Light. Time & Colour collection for 2021. A collection of real portraits showing how innovative yet relatable hair work can be. We asked Tom more about the creative process. “I think this type of work, certainly the creative work, it should be a statement about what you think hair should be about, certainly creative hair, and a statement about what you think hair shouldn’t be about as well. You know, I think when you push the envelope and try experimental colours and experimental shapes it’s important to shoot in in a very transparent, natural way as well, I think that’s how it still looks tasteful and it doesn’t go too plastic and digitised which I think there is a lot of at the moment and it doesn’t do anything to move our industry forward I don’t think.” Tom Connell
