This year has been surreal for the ‘street homeless’ so more than ever, it’s vital that we support the Crisis at Christmas campaign. Over the holidays, many charities and agencies, including the key charity Crisis (which campaigns to end homelessness), take a well earned break. The task off offering temporary shelter, food, healthcare services, financial advice and guidance shifts to projects such as the Crisis at Christmas organisation. Despite the Covid-19 restrictions which limit the potential for creating large dormitories and dining canteens, Crisis at Christmas this year is working from large hotels where rooms are gifted to those in need, and volunteers help run a massive 2-week operation to save many from sleeping rough. And they asked our help.
Hairdressing supports Crisis at Christmas
One of the key services offered at these shelters, along with dental and medical clinics and mental health support, is hairdressing! It’s a popular and valuable opportunity for guests to recover some self-esteem and feel cared for as well as groomed! Thankfully some of you awesome lovely hairdressers volunteer your time and skills to people the makeshift salons, but the Crisis team needed our help in finding donations of equipment, particularly PPE.
They asked us, we asked you and we are proud to say that more 1,000 units of product/tools/gowns and towels have been donated.
Join us in saying a BIG thank you to LWPR who arranged for donations from their client brands including: ghd Professional; Indola; and Kent Salon brushes. LWPR says: “We are thrilled to be able to help those in need this time of year, Crisis at Christmas is a fantastic initiative that we are very proud to be able to support.”
For disposable towels (which save the Crisis charity volunteers a lot of time and money in laundry tasks) we say thank you to Scrummi. Marketing manager Martin Howitt was quick off the mark in organising a large delivery with no delay. He says: “It’s important to us at Scrummi to give back wherever we can and supporting those who are homeless is one of our priorities. We’ve worked with various homeless charity programs in the past and it is a great pleasure to be able to give a little to support Crisis at Christmas this year“.
Such generosity is what helps initiatives work. If you’re interested in the work of Crisis and would like to add your support, do please click the link HERE
