MUST HAVE / MUST GO

In the winter edition of TRIBU-TE, Tim Hartley has us running between London, Dessau and New York for our cultural inspiration! Read on to find out what he’s chosen and why…

1/ MEMORABILIA
By Richard Habberley. Published by Idea Books (2018)
The former face of the 80s in London’s club culture, Richard Habberley moved to NYC in 1999 to become a famous model agent. Grab this limited edition book of photographs. Imperative!

2/ SUSPIRIA (2018)
A film directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by David Kajganich
Featuring my favourite actress Tilda Swinton, this movie looks amazing and has a beautiful sound track, too. The fashion crowd are loving it.

3/ CAMP: NOTES ON FASHION
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
The Costume Institute at the Met reveals a major new exhibition for Spring 2019. Having been inspired by everything subversive all my life, I’m intrigued by the concept of this! Let’s book early…

4/ BAUHAUS
Dessau, Germany
All 2019 It’s the centenary of Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known simply as Bauhaus; a German art school combining crafts and the fine arts which was found in three German cities (Weimar, Dessau and Berlin) in the 20thCentury. I’m thrilled to see you can rent rooms in the original building in Dessau, so you can really experience the sublime minimalist principles first hand.

5/ FASHION CLIMBING: A NEW YORK LIFE
By Bill Cunningham. Published Chatto & Windus (2018)
I’m delighted to see the memoir of fashion photographer Bill Cunningham! He documented fashion in the big city around the 1950s. Everything about this amazing man is to be loved and cherished.

6/ HIKING BOOTS
www.gucci.com
Calf leather, suede panels… I’m loving the heavy-tread Flashtrek logo-print boots. Just £795. Get your feet fashion-forward.

7/ ANNI ALBERS, wife of Josef Albers
Tate Modern, London. Until end January 2019
Continuing my Bauhaus fascination, I see former student and textile artist, Anni Albers is the focus of an exhibition. In the 1960s she created exquisite small-scale pictorial weavings to large wall-hangings. A must-see.
