It’s really fun opening the mail to see what we’re being sent for the ‘Me in 6 pix‘ feature! As the title suggests, we invite some of the most creative names in the industry to share with us their personal photographs, and explain why they’re important to them. The latest to oblige is double act Hooker & Young… they do everything together!
Gary Hooker and Michael Young aka Hooker & Young are big hitters in the UK hairdressing industry with so much talent, experience and business nous. They have built up a thriving salon group by the name Hooker & Young which is set in the NE of England – they are proudly from Tynesside – but are equally famous for their work on the national and international arena. They are brand ambassadors, award-winners and highly sought-after stage presenters. Partners in life and business, this is a union of hearts and minds and we love it! We invited each to share with us their 6 picture choices to create a dozen joyful images. Here goes:
WE ASKED…
1) Send us one of the last pics from your phone and explain it?
Michael: I’m walking our dogs daily now with not being in the salon and loving it! Here is Muffin, Jaffacake, Crumpet, Dimple and Shirley 
Gary: I think the boredom must have set in when I took this picture below!
Honest – it really is the latest on my phone
2) Whose poster was on your wall as a teenager?
Michael: There were two that I recall; Adam Ant and Madonna
Gary: David Cassidy (how camp is that?!)
3) Send us a pic of your favourite drinking cup/mug?
Michael: So Damn Pretty / Gary: So Damn Clever
4) Who’s your hair icon?
Michael: I never tire of looking at work from Eugene Souleiman and Angelo Seminara
Gary: I have a lot of hair heroes! Have always loved Antoinette Beenders and Sally Brooks
5) Send us an image you find calming?
Michael: I took this picture a couple of years ago as part of a series of black & white landscapes when we were stayed at Khao Lak in Thailand. Khao Lak was the coastal area hardest hit by the December 2004 tsunami. There was a huge loss of life from this tragedy yet the place has a real sense of calm and serenity about it.
Gary: It’s a picture Michael shot picture a couple of years ago in Thailand. I love the simplicity of it
He called it ‘roots’ (below) and I really gives me perspective
